Organization and Shameless Plug

Well, it snowed yesterday and it stuck, so it’s officially Winter!

We got a thermometer/humidity gauge with bluetooth for the shed, so I can keep track of what’s going on when I’m not in there. So far, I haven’t tried leaving the heater on overnight, to see how efficient (or not) it is, because there are still some clear spots that we need to go back to with more insulation. Some spots, it’s just a draft; some spots I can literally see light coming in from outside, so I’ll have to fix that up before we do the efficiency test.

That said though, the heater still works well enough for me to spend time in the shop without a coat on, which gave me the opportunity to get some organization done in there finally. But before I could put my tools and things in the right places, I needed places to put them! So, the first thing I did was to remove a giant pegboard from our basement (same place I got my workbench from), cut it to the right size, and basically turn one of my shop walls into a giant tool wall.

After that, I needed to find some non-hanging receptacles. I already had a little folding shelf, and I also found a used toy organizer shelf on Facebook, so that gave me a lot more smaller containers in which to put things. THEN I was ready to put stuff in places! I bought a label-maker a while back, and I went crazy with it…

Look at that tool wall!

I also spent a lot of time hunting for small-shop-friendly tools. I found this wonderful little benchtop drill press on Craigslist. It fits perfectly underneath the bench, so I can just take it out when I need it and not use up a ton of benchtop space for something I’m not using. (in the benchtop photo, also no the extra bit of pegboard I put on the wall behind it - for my A-Team tools!)

Over…..

Under!

Before I go, I wanted to shamelessly plug the Etsy I’ve just joined! For those of you who don’t know, knitting is my side hustle. Etsy is a great place to buy/sell handmade artisan gifts. My sister Anna sells her beautiful watercolor paintings on there, and she recently invited me to join her “shop” and sell my knit items! I make a bunch of different things, but my specialty is colorful hats with a piano keyboard on the cuff! They make great gifts (hint hint, wink wink), so take a look at our shop!

A hat like this could be yours!

And lastly, here’s a knot in the wall behind my workbench where a piece popped out, revealing what looks exactly like part of a piano keyboard! I hope it stays like that forever.
